Yma Van Dyk was born in the town of Bussum in the Netherlands.
She spent her early childhood running barefoot through the woods, playing with the Gypsy kids
eating with the Gypsy kids and sleeping with the Gypsy kids.
When she was 13 years old, Yma's family moved to Toronto, Canada.
Yma's father recognized her artistic
ability, so she was enrolled in schools that would augment her skill.
After graduation, Yma worked
as a graphic artist for various advertising agencies and eventually the art department of the
national newspaper The Globe and Mail.
All of this was interupted when she married
Morton Grant and moved with him when he was transferred from Toronto to Vancouver
to Winnipeg and finally to Brampton.
While in Winnipeg, Yma was employed as Art Director for Jostens
Canada for 10 years. Jostens was the largest publisher of yearbooks for highschools in Canada.
When she moved to Brampton
Yma bcame interested in the artistic quality of old barns and antic farm implements. She and Morton would spend weekends
driving the country roads around Brampton, photographing rustic bars, shed and farm implements and country landscapes.
She'd spend parts of each day at her art table painting country scenes in oil and in pen and ink. Much of this work
together with micellaneous items created over the years are displayed in this website.
